Pakshipathalam is a formation of large stones located high up at 1700 meters within the thick forest cover of the Brahmagiri hills. Many of these formations are equal to two-storey buildings in height. A range of wild animals, birds and rare plants are found within these deep caves. The caves can only be reached through a strenuous trek of 7 km. winding its way through the deep forest. The trek starts at Thirunelli. Visitors must obtain special permission from DFO- North Wayanad at Mananthavady for the trek.
